Results 2016 & 2017

The 2016 Members Consultative Survey was undertaken in late April coming out of the wettest winter on record – the course was closed for many days. Many thanks to the 186 respondents – your input will help shape the future of the Club. The information supplied is very useful particularly the volunteer. 

This is a snapshot of the results. 

A total of 186 members completed the Members Consultative Survey 2016 – 139 men and 47 ladies. The survey confirms that the membership is very inclusive with members coming from diverse strata’s of society including accountancy, banking, medics, public servants, professions, trades and unemployed. The membership is aging with 40% in the category 51-65 years and further 26% over 65 years old.

Club facilities & activities

The course ratings reflect the problems encountered during the wettest winter on record. Tees and bunkers were relatively unsatisfactory but fairways, greens and rough generally got a good rating.
The changing rooms and bar were generally rated as good but cleanliness could be improved. The staff ratings for helpfulness and politeness were excellent for the Pro-shop but bar staff ratings need to improve.
Ratings for the restaurant as regards menu variety, quality and value were generally good.
Close on 60% put a high rating on having restaurant facilities at the Club.

Over 80% of respondents play golf once a week. The most popular playing day is Sunday for men and Tuesday for ladies.

Close on 70% of respondents put a high value on social events at the Club. The Captains Drive in and golf related events are popular.
Family events are important for 27% of respondents.
75% of respondents would like to have a golfing academy with covered driving bays.
Over 70% of respondents indicated that more use could be made of volunteers and most indicated what they would volunteer to do.
34% of respondents would be comfortable with bank debt up to €100,000 and a further 17% up to €500,000.

The 2017 Members Consultative Survey was undertaken in February. 
This is a summary of the findings:
• The restaurant is the big winner: 95% of respondents gave it a rating of good or excellent for quality and

• Club News is read by 89% of respondents – 41% suggest that publication once a fortnight is adequate 

• Email is used by 93% of respondent but other platforms are also used a lot – web browser 47%, whatsapp
44%, facebook 36% 

• 70% of respondents indicate the Golf Academy (Driving Range) should be open to the public 

• Using surplus cash is the most popular way of financing future developments but loans from banks,
members or a members levy had some support 

• Most respondents are prepared to volunteer to help with running the Club e.g.24 on course maintenance, 14 help with Juniors etc. 

• Chairman will be in contact with volunteers 

• The course got mixed ratings with greens, rough and fairways doing best but Tees and bunkers scored poorly
